  • Our Antibody Immunity test tells you whether you have natural antibodies because you have had an infection and / or whether you have vaccine antibodies.  This allows you to make intelligent choices based on a true picture of your immunity profile, duration of protection and thus vulnerability to COVID-19 infection. This test costs £125.00.

Our clinic has rigorous infection control measures in place to protect both you and our staff.

Please note that until proven, the presence of COVID-19 antibodies does not mean that you have immunity against further infection of the virus. The test limitations will be explained at your appointment or you can contact us beforehand.

How it Works

When you are infected with a virus, your body develops antibodies as a defence mechanism. These antibodies are unique for each virus so tests can be developed which are specific to a particular virus. If you are looking to get COVID-19 Antibody testing in Winchester, Wiltshire, Southampton or Portsmouth then look no further than Remedi Health. We will helped you get tested.

Your body develops several different types of antibodies, including IgG. The IgG antibodies begin to accumulate as you recover from the virus and remain in the blood for an extended period of time. The COVID-19 antibody test analyses your blood for the presence of virus-specific IgG antibodies. Their presence indicates that at some point you have been infected with the COVID-19 virus and recovered.

This can be helpful to reassure you that you’ve had the virus and come through it, or confirmed that the cough you had earlier in the year was not COVID-19. Some people who have IgG antibodies for COVID-19 are now donating their plasma to help others.

We take a small droplet of your blood using a little lancet device on your finger tip and analyse it using our antibody testing kits. As the test requires only a small drop of blood and no laboratory analysis, we can get the results to you much quicker than laboratory-based antibody tests, and within ten minutes.

Our COVID-19 antibody test does not detect active COVID-19 infections. An active infection is tested using a PCR viral test and is the one that some countries require for travel.

We ask all our patients not to attend our clinic until at least 21 days after any symptoms have ceased. This is to allow IgG antibodies to build up in your blood so we can give you the most reliable test result and to ensure you are not at risk of passing the virus on.

There is currently no evidence that the presence of COVID-19 antibodies confers you increased resistance from catching the virus again or from passing it on to others.

Please continue to follow Government guidelines on social distancing, hand-washing and hygiene, and remain vigilant. We recommend that when social distancing of 2 metres cannot be maintained that you also wear a face-covering.

About our test

Our test is a CE approved finger-prick, lateral-flow COVID-19 antibody test with results available at the point of care. With a 99.9% sensitivity, it is trusted by healthcare professionals around the UK. No test is perfect, including the current PCR test for antigens being used across the UK, however both the virus test and serological (antibody) test are far better than nothing. They offer valuable information to medical professionals, public health experts and the people who get tested.

The accuracy of tests is based on their sensitivity and specificity. Simply, sensitivity measures positive accuracy; specificity measures negative accuracy.

  • > 99.9% sensitivity. This means that among 1,000 people who have had coronavirus, almost 100% of them will correctly test positive. In fewer than 1 in 1,000 people who have had coronavirus, the result will come back negative. When this happens it is called a false negative. This means that less than 1 person out of 1,000 people who have had the disease, will think they don’t have antibodies to coronavirus, but in fact they do.

  • 99.2% specificity. This means that among 1,000 people who have not had coronavirus, 992 of them will correctly test negative. For 8 of these 1,000 people who have not had coronavirus, the result will come back positive. This is called a false positive and means that 8 out of 1,000 people will think they have antibodies to coronavirus, but in fact they don’t.

What a positive result means

If your antibody test for COVID-19 is positive, it means you have probably had the virus (novel coronavirus) that causes COVID-19, and have produced antibodies against it.

A positive antibody test does not tell you that you are immune, or that you can’t pass the virus to others if you were to get it again.  You must therefore still continue to follow social distancing advice.  If you are in contact with a positive case in the future or have symptoms, you must self-isolate again as advised.

What a negative result means

If your antibody test is negative, it means that we have not detected antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19 in your blood.

This could mean:

  • You have not been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 (novel coronavirus)
  • You have levels of antibodies too low for us to detect.  This might be because you had a recent infection and haven’t produced antibodies yet, or because you had the infection a long time ago, and the antibody levels have dropped.
