About this service
The weight management service begins with listening to find our more about you. Using coaching and motivational interviewing techniques, we help you to understand what has worked, what hasn’t and how you can set yourself up for success.
Your BMI will be calculated, your blood pressure and waist measurements logged, and your personal goal set. In some instances, having a blood glucose monitor can help to raise self-awareness about foods that support healthy weight loss and those that don’t.
We understand that losing and then maintaining weight can be difficult. Setting goals, checking-in and being accountable can help you achieve better health.
If required and indicated, we can prescribe medication to support weight loss. The GLP-1 analogues (semaglutaride as Wegovy) work by suppressing appetite and helping you to feel fuller for longer.

About the Weight Management Consultation
Please allow around 45 minutes for your appointment where your blood pressure, height and weight will be recorded. If prescribing occurs then you will be with us for up to an hour.
Your clinician will also ask you questions about your current health, health history and any concerns you may have. Additionally, time will be taken to explore goals, and strategies for success.
About Weight Management injections
Semaglutide is a known as Wegovy for weight loss. Wegovy is a weight loss drug which is used to help people with high body mass indexes (BMI) lose weight. Our clinicians will check your BMI, before they prescribe this treatment.
Wegovy can lead to weight loss because it is designed to suppress appetite so you eat less. It mimics the action of a gut hormone called GLP-1, which is released after eating, and it slows down the movement of food in your gut so you stay full for longer.
The amount of weight you lose on Wegovy would depend on your personal circumstances, the support you receive and how long you are on the medication for.
In a major study, the STEP 1 clinical trial, people on the maximum dose lost 12% more of their body weight compared to those who were not on the medication. Crucially, both groups received advice to reduce their calorie intake, and increase their physical activity levels, which shows the importance of making those changes to get the best out of any weight loss medications.
Like other weight loss medications, there is evidence of weight regain when people stop using Wegovy so it is important to continue to receive support in making changes to your diet and physical activity levels.
At REMEDI HEALTH we can prescribe Wegovy after a comprehensive health history is taken and the appropriate criteria are met.
Are their any side effects?
Nausea is a common side effect when first starting Wegovy, while other side effects can include constipation and diarrhoea.
If you have diabetic eye disease (retinopathy) and are using insulin, then Wegovy may lead to a worsening of your vision, and this may require treatment. Please tell us if you have diabetic eye disease or if you experience eye problems during treatment with this medication.
More information about the side effects will be contained in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) which comes in the box of the medication.
It is important that a person takes individual advice before starting a new prescription of Wegovy, and reports any side effects.
How effective is Wegovy?
When Wegovy® is combined with a reduced calorie diet and increased exercise, a 68-week study has shown that:

Wegovy® injections come in a variety of doses. Depending on where you are in your Wegovy® journey, you will need to take a different dose.
The dose is gradually increased to make sure you cope with any potential side effects until you get to a maintenance dose, this process is known as titration.

- Weeks 5-8: 0.5mg weekly
