A medicines monitoring appointment will consist of a 30 minute consultation with a trained clinician to understand more about signs, symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and much more. This will enable the clinician to help you choose the most appropriate testing option.

If your GP or other prescriber has requested a specific blood test, for example, if you are on isotretinoin for acne, then a consultation may not be required.

About this service

Medicines monitoring is an important part of keeping you safe and well when you are on long term treatment. You may require blood tests before you start treatment and then again during treatment, when a dose change has been implemented and/or your health changes. Sometimes you may require another test to confirm one which has shown abnormal results.

Our expert pharmacists can help you keep well whilst you are on treatment, and advise you on what to do if your results are not as expected.

Should you have reactions to medicines and it is causing some dysfunction such as to the liver or kidneys, then we can advise you and your doctor on next steps. It may be that a genetic test to look at how you react to medicines is a good next step (please see our pharmacogenomics testing).

About Medicines Monitoring

Medicines have many benefits and can save lives. However they can have powerful effects on body systems including organs such as the liver, kidneys, heart, thyroid, bone marrow and more.

To keep you safe when you are on some medicines, your doctor will be performing regular blood tests and, for example,  monitoring blood pressure, ECG, weight, etc.

In our consultation we will check your medicines and advise you on what monitoring you should be having, and can perform the observations and blood tests in clinic if required.

We can issue a report and share with your doctor.
