COVID-19 Amber List Day 2 and 8 Test Bundle

Individuals* entering England from outside the Common Travel Area (Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man) and from an Amber Country must quarantine for 10 days if they do not meet the current UK exemptions. They must also take a COVID-19 test on day 2 and day 8 of quarantining.

To avoid quarantine (and both tests) you must have been fully vaccinated under:

  • the UK vaccination programme
  • the UK vaccine programme overseas
  • an approved vaccination programme in Europe or the USA – not all are recognised in England

There rules for children depend on age and country of residency.

More information on whether you qualify https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

You must book and pay for for a travel test package before coming into England. The first test will be taken on or before day 2 of your quarantine period and the second test will be taken on or after day 8 of your quarantine period. We prefer to test in our clinic in Winchester, Hampshire to ensure your swabs are performed correctly and results come back quickly. This is especially important if day 8 is at the weekend as you require a negative test before leaving quarantine after day 10. However if you prefer we can post your test – please choose your option when booking.

We also offer a bundle with early release – save £65.00 by booking all three tests together.

We have confirmation from the UK Government that you are permitted to leave quarantine for testing.

REMEDI HEALTH are listed by the UK Government to provide testing on days 2 and 8, using the laboratory Oncologica.

*some jobs are exempt – please check the Government website for more information https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules

FAQs – testing during quarantine

Arriving back in the country and understanding what is required can be confusing and so we hope to help you so that you book the right testing package and at the right time to be compliant with the UK Government requirements.

Q: Why do I have to have these tests?
A: It is important that the spread of coronavirus and especially that of different variants is contained as much as possible. The UK Government has put this testing process in place for all arrivals to reduce the risk of variants coming into the country.

Q: Does this requirement for quarantine and testing apply to people travelling to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales?
A: There are different requirements in each of the devolved nations and so you should following the advice for the specific country

Q: The different tests are confusing! What tests must I get and which ones are optional?
A: Everyone travelling into England from outside the Common Travel Area must take a coronavirus test and get a negative result during the 3 days before travel. This can be a PCR or antigen test. Everyone must also book and pay for a travel test package, depending on where they have come from, their vaccination status and their age.

Q: What are the new rules from people arriving from an amber list country if vaccinated in Europe of the USA?
A: From 2 August (4am), you will not have to quarantine or take a day 8 test when you arrive in England if you’ve been:

  • in an amber list country (and have not been in or passed through a red list country, or France) in the 10 days before arriving
  • fully vaccinated with an authorised vaccine in the USA or Europe

Q: Which European countries do these rules apply to?
A: The new rules apply to EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican City. They do not apply if you have travelled in or through France.

Q: Which vaccines are recognised for this exemption?
A: You must be fully vaccinated with a vaccine authorised by:

  • the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for Europe
  • Swissmedic for Switzerland
  • the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the USA

Q: Do children need to be tested?
A: Children under 5 who are UK residents do not need to take the day 2 test but all children of 5 and over must. If they have been in France then they must follow the rules for children who are not UK residents.

Q: What about children who are not UK residents?
A: On arrival in England, children aged 5 to 17 who are not ordinarily resident in the UK:

  • must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8
  • must quarantine at home or in the place they’re staying for 10 full days

Q: What do I do if not fully vaccinated?
A: If you’ve been in an amber list country (and have not been in or passed through a red list country) in the 10 days before you arrive in England, and you have not been fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme, you must:

  • take a COVID-19 travel test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 after you arrive
  • quarantine at home or in the place you’re staying for 10 days after you arrive
  • you can opt for a test to release on day 5 to leave quarantine early.

The day you arrive in England counts as day 0.

Q: What will happen if I don’t have the tests on day 2 and/or day 8?
A: Providing false or deliberately misleading information when filling out your passenger locator form is an offence punishable by imprisonment. You could be fined up to £10,000, imprisoned for up to 10 years or both if you do not provide accurate details about the countries you have visited in the 10 days before you arrived in the UK. If you break the quarantine rules, you may face a penalty of up to £10,000. If you do not take the tests, you may face a penalty of up to £2,000.

    Q: When is day 2?
A: The day you arrive in England is counted as day zero (0). If you arrive, for example, on Tuesday then your first day of quarantine is Wednesday  and second day is Thursday. You can have your day 2 test on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday in this example. This first test is designed to help identify any potentially harmful variants of COVID-19 at the earliest opportunity.

Q: What happens if I test positive?
    A:
If you test positive for any test you must quarantine for a further 10 days from the day after you took the test – you will receive further advice alongside your test results. If your test shows that you have a variant of coronavirus known as a ‘variant of concern’, you will get a further call and your contacts will be asked to be tested.

Q: Where can I find out more about testing as an international arrival?
    A: Visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

    Ending quarantine early

    Test to release

You can still use the Test to Release for international travel scheme. The scheme lets you choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. If the result is negative, you can stop quarantining.

You cannot take a test until you have been in England for 5 full days.

The scheme is voluntary and applies to those quarantining in England only.

If you do not want to opt into the Test to Release scheme, you will need to self-isolate for 10 days.

You cannot use the Test to Release scheme if you have been in or through any country that is on the travel ban red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England.

If you’re planning to use the Test to Release scheme, you must still take a test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8, unless you’re exempt. Even if you get a negative result from your Test to Release and are released from self-isolation, you still need to take a test on or after day 8 to check that you do not have COVID-19.

    IMPORTANT:

    1. We will not be able to take responsibility for calculating the time when you need to have your tests. However, we will do all we can to help.

    2. Please do not visit the clinic if you have current COVID19 symptoms. We can drop the kit off at you for self-use if required or perform the test at your home. Please contact us for more details.

    3. There are no refunds for the day 2 and 8 package unless proof of not travelling is provided. In this instance the fee will be refunded less an adminstration fee of £20.00. If a package has been purhased and a client does not complete day 8, then there will be no refund.

    4. From 06 April 2021, we are able to sell day 2 and 8 separately. This is relevant for people who are not requiring day 8 tests as they are only in the UK for a short period of time. Please contact the clinic for more information.
