Roaccutane Blood Test

Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) is a treatment for severe acne that has a number of beneficial effects:

  • it helps normalise sebum and reduce how much is produced
  • it helps prevent follicles becoming clogged
  • it decreases the amount of bacteria on the skin
  • it reduces redness and swelling in and around spots

Before starting and during treatment, you will need to have a blood test to check that your lipids (cholesterol and triglyceride), kidney and liver function are normal. This test should be done after a 12-hour fast, during which you should have nothing to eat or drink except water until after you have the test. Hence we recommend that you book your test as early as possible in the morning. This also allows us to get your blood sample to our laboratory for analysis that afternoon.
