Drug Monitoring Tests
Monitoring liver, kidney and/or cholesterol can be a requirement of some medicines including treatment for acne.
For oral acne treatment, blood tests may be required before starting and during treatment. The blood test checks that your lipids (cholesterol and triglyceride), kidney and liver function are normal. This test should be done after a 12-hour fast, during which you should have nothing to eat or drink except water until after you have the test. We recommend that you book your test as early as possible in the morning. This also allows us to get your blood sample to our laboratory for analysis that afternoon. Women will also require a pregnancy test every month to continue treatment; we provide this as part of the drug monitoring pregnancy prevention programme.
We can provide a range of blood tests for individuals taking different medicines to support safe treatment. As pharmacists we can provide expert advice on which tests are required.
